"Simply Stone" , Beach Stone Necklaces from New Zealand are crafted by New Zealander, Mia Tenant. She lives on the West Coast of New Zealand's beautiful and wild South Island. This is a part of the world where Mother Nature is simply inescapable. The surf pounds the rocky shore, breaking and polishing the stones brought there by the upheaval of the Southern Alps and the many rivers running down them to the Tasman Sea. It is an environment of austere and sometimes harsh beauty. It is along these beaches that Mia collects the various stones; rhyolite, serpentine, limestone, jasper, "Punamu" ( New Zealand jade), and some that remain a mystery. The surf does the initial grinding and polishing and Mia finishes the process by grinding them completely smooth, symmetrical and creating a hole to string a hand-braided cord through so they can be worn as an adornment for both Men and Women. Each necklaces comes in a "kete", a hand-woven pouch made of flax.
